Tomato Target Cards was created to supply an outlet for my passion to create while empowering me financially and spiritually. I needed a company that would never stop growing. I wanted meaningful work for more than simply money. I needed something for the heart and soul. After years of being a jazz musician I was desperate for a more tangible art. I wanted to create something I could hold in my hands and bring humor, thought and something I could give to my friends and family as presents! I am a humorist, animal lover, feminist and an environmentalist and you will find lots of bold silly creatures in most of my art. I try to use the most earth friendly products available from water based inks to vegetable based cello bags. I started with the 5 x 7 cards and my parents do the amazing printing. At one point my cards were in over 300 stores nationwide. Six of these cards won international finalist awards. But life has a way of turning things around and after moving from Alaska to Michigan I had financial disaster and had to rethink my business strategy. My card company was very expensive and the big companies that bought so many of my cards dumped all the little vendors - me being one. I realized I needed to sell things I could create in house to add to the cards and sell them directly to the customer. Small note cards, bookmarks, magnets, and hand painted bags, tee shirts, and finally ceramics. Ceramic tiles, jewelry and sculptures are the latest addition and I am getting nothing but positive feedback and sales are zooming! Supporting women-owned businesses and artists is at the heart of TomatoTarget Cards. As a women business owner; I know all too well how hard it can be to get a company off the ground. I want to support women all over the world that are striving for a business of their own. I feel strongly about honoring women and validating their work. I believe women are still underpaid and must work much harder to survive. Whenever I can I hire and buy from women owned companies. I believe in following your dreams and never say die.
