Started in 1942 Hobby House Press, Inc. pioneered providing books on antiques via mail order. Thousands of customers were able to obtain hard-to-find research information on furniture, dolls, silver, glass and a myriad of other antiques. In the early 1970s the company concentrated its efforts on publishing books and magazines on dolls and later added teddy bears as a topic. Doll Reader magazine was first published in 1972 followed by Teddy Bear & friends magazine ten years later. The magazine division was sold to another company in 1992. Hobby House was the first to publish a price guide on dolls, Blue Book Dolls & Values by Jan Foulke, this research tome soon became the bible of doll collecting. It is now in its 14th edition with over one-half million in print. In 1998 the company went back to its roots, publishing books on antiques once again. The ABCs of Collecting Online was the first book published using the Internet to buy or sell antiques. The ABCs of Collecting Online by Ray Boileau has since gone into a revised edition. Many books on dolls, teddy bears, antiques and collectibles are planned for publication in the future.
