Macatea Productions exploits digital technologies to create new kinds of literature for students and instructors in science and engineering. We develop new textbooks, workbooks, and instructional aids and distribute those products via printed books or electronic books or both. We also organize, develop, and maintain websites that focus on science, engineering, and technology. In the Macatea MusicLab we explore and create digital music, which may be distributed as background for computer games or as musical CDs. At Macatea Productions we seek better ways to organize technical information and make that information accessible. Our contention is that highly technical information, such as is found in science, engineering, and education, need not be overwhelming or confusing; however, to be accessible, such information must be organized in meaningful ways. A viable organization must be sustained by a logical structure; it must balance technical details against larger technical and social problems; it must make contact to other domains of knowledge. To connect technical information to its users, we create and publish printed books and booklets, electronic books, and websites.
