Wilderness Adventures Books in Stationery Business Directory

Wilderness Adventures originated in Ohio, in the home of Chuck and Blanche Johnson. They began by selling rare and out-of-print hunting and fishing books. They published their first catalog in 1991, featuring both out-of-print and new books. Denny Nelson (current owner) met Chuck and Blanche when he built kennels for their German wirehaired pointers. Their friendship grew as Denny assisted Chuck and Blanche at sporting shows, setting up and selling books. When the Johnson’s moved to Montana, the Nelson’s moved to Michigan - both following a dream. Over the next several years, Wilderness Adventures grew to be the largest catalog and Internet sporting book business. Chuck and Blanche started publishing their own books in 1994. Denny and Anne continued to help at the sporting shows. We all enjoyed talking with clients: talking books, dogs, hunting, and fishing. Chuck and Blanche enjoy fishing as well as upland bird and waterfowl hunting with their German wirehaired pointers. Denny and Anne enjoy the same pursuits with their wirehair and Labrador retriever. And who doesn’t enjoy a good book! When Chuck and Blanche decided to sell the retail book business (keeping the publishing business) Denny and I were right there to agree to buy. We moved the catalog/Internet business back to Michigan and have been learning, struggling with computers, and so glad when someone calls to chat! We enjoy the job of reading as many books as we can to answer your questions. We will continue to offer the finest in first edition, first printing sporting literature from publishers worldwide. Whenever possible, these will be signed copies or with an author’s signed bookplate. We are a family owned and operated business. During business hours, we take your calls, package your orders, look for out-of-print books, and let our dogs out. After hours, our answering service in Montana takes our calls so that we can process your orders and answer any questions the following business day. When you have time between reading, enjoying your favorite sport, and the necessity of work - give us a call!
