Mark J Bradlyn (Folk Singer/Songwriter) in Stationery Business Directory
Used bookstore with used, rare, out-of-print, and hard-to-find books in all subject areas. My professional musical experience began in San Antonio, Texas, in 1964 when I and my brother, Allen, and two friends - Jon Kaplan and Roy Kamin - formed a folk-rock combo called The Folk Moderns. With our matching blue and white striped button-down shirts we fit right into the collegiate folk music image of the day, but with Allen on drums we had a harder hitting sound than other folk groups. At first we chiefly performed our own arrangements of songs by Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, and Bud and Travis, but it didnt take long for us to start learning songs by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Byrds. Soon we were playing at talent showcases, sweet sixteen parties, and pizza parlors, as well as benefit concerts for the Red Cross and even for the mental health unit at one of the local military hospitals. Although we never went electric, with Allens solid Ringo-like drumming to kick us along, we still managed to rock out with two acoustic guitars.
