Luigi Rossetti was born in July 1932, in the Friuli Region of Italy, the land traditionally considered the cradle of the Italian aviation and birthplace of several illustrious aviators. His first employment was with Face Standard in Milan, 1947-1962, involved in the design, manufacturing and development of the first ILS (Instrument Landing System), for aircraft. During this period he graduated in Economics and Commercial Sciences at the University of Sacro Cuore in Milan. He joined Alitalia Airlines in 1963 and for almost thirty years worked in Australia, Lebanon, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Yugoslavia, Algeria and Singapore, in senior managerial positions. He left Alitalia Airlines in 1990 and joined SGS-Thomson Microelectronics in Singapore where he was responsible for the Communications operations for South East asia, Far east and Australasia. In 1993 he settled in Northern Ireland where he formed Lumo Travel, an organisation specialising in Travel and Tourism. As well writing books on general and commercial-aviation, travel topics and tourism, he is actively involved with charities and other humanitarian causes. He has been an active member of the Rotary International movement for more than thirty years. For his meritorious contribution to the spread and understanding of Italian art, culture and language the Italian Government, and other noted institutions, have awarded him several prestigious honours. He now lives with his wife in Bangor, County Down Northern Ireland. They have three grown-up daughters, all-working overseas.
