Since 1981, Joel Simon has been a freelance travel writer and photographer. He has also worked in the travel industry in multifaceted capacities that include itinerary design and implementation, and tour management. As frequent staff member on group programs lecturing on travel writing and photography, he has participated in over 100 land, ship, train and plane based programs with Zegrahms, Smithsonian, World Wildlife Fund, Abercrombie & Kent, Travel Dynamics, High Country Passage, Harvard Museum of Cultural and Natural History, and the Stanford Alumni Association TravelStudy programs, among others. As a freelance photographer and veteran writer in the travel industry, he has published articles on Bonaire, Mexico, the North Pole & Siberian Arctic, Papua New Guinea, India, Spain, Thailand, and Vanuatu, and has traveled in over 100 countries worldwide.Joel Simon received his first camera at age six. It was a gift from his parents. His first role of film 12 black and white frames was exposed entirely chasing a bright green caterpillar a creature even a sixyear old can successfully follow.Since that time, Joel has pursued a career in photography embodied in Joel Simon Images, an agency handling over 200,000 images depicting cultural, architectural, and natural history themes from more than 150 destinations worldwide, including all seven continents.
